Swine flu information

6th July 2009

Dear Parents/Guardians

H1N1 swine influenza – Amersham School

I am writing to you let you know that, along with other schools, there has been a case of H1N1swine flu in the Amersham school community. This letter is to give you information, so that you understand what we are doing and to help you monitor your own child’s health.

We are following advice from the Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust (PCT), the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the Local Authority and will be working to ensure that we minimise any spread of infection in school and to keep you informed.

The advice is clear, that everyone who is well and free from symptoms should go about life as normal. We do not need to close the school and pupils should attend for normal school activities. In the meantime, the school will continue with an enhanced monitoring of influenza–like illness in the school setting, anyone thought to be unwell will be isolated and parents/guardians will be contacted to take their child home.

Once away from school, for any pupils who develop symptoms (such as a raised temperature, a cough, runny nose, muscle and joint pain or headache) their parents/guardian should contact their family doctor by telephone for advice. Anyone with symptoms should limit their contact with others.
Children should not attend school if they have the above symptoms.

The school and I are concerned that we ensure that you have as much infrmation as possible to allow you to monitor your own children and so have attached a leaflet from the NHS about swine flu with this letter. For further information in relation to swine influenza you can contact:

  • NHS choices for information and frequently asked questions
  • The National Swine Flu information line - 0800 1 513 513
  • NHS Direct: 0800 1513513
  • Your GP by phone.

If the situation or our advice should change we will notify you of this by letter.

Yours sincerely
Sharon E Jarrett
