GCSE and A Level Results 2012

Comments from Mrs Jarrett :

GCSEs

Amersham School is ‘riding high’ following their best ever GCSE results for the fifth year running.  The jubilant students celebrated the school’s phenomenal success of 98% A*-C; a significant increase from last year’s achievement (24% increase).

Headteacher Sharon Jarrett attributed the incredible 24% raise in attainment to the hard work and dedication of both the staff and the students.  “The inspiring ethos of Amersham School ensures that every student is pushed to achieve, and indeed exceed, their full potential.  We are all incredibly proud of our students’ success; it is an exciting time for our young people who now have endless possibilities ahead of them.”

In addition to the 98% of Amersham students achieving at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, the number including a C or above in English and Maths rose to 73% and the average point score for each student also increased.  This phenomenal cohort were the first to complete Amersham School’s innovative GCSE curriculum which was specifically praised by the most recent Ofsted visit for expertly meeting the individual student’s needs.

As well as the 80% of students in Year 11 achieving an A*-C in English and 83% achieving the same in Mathematics, 75% of students in the Year 10 cohort have achieved an A*-C grade in Mathematics a year early.

Among the exceptional were students such as Rebecca Badrick who added a further 5 A*s to those she achieved last year and Joel Pallett and Adam Hughes who achieved a similar feat.  Simon Dunkelman, Jerontius Mata, Anh Pham, Gus Pollard, Elleni Rogers and Lucy Thompson also added a string of A*s and As to their portfolio of results.

This week’s dramatic GCSE success follows on from last week’s excellent A Level results and will pave the way for the school’s continuing journey towards ‘Outstanding’.

A Levels

Amersham School is celebrating another year of superb A Level results, with continued improvements in the percentage of students achieving grades A*-B and improved average point scores per student and per entry.

Students achieving three, four or five passes at grades at A*-B included John Duffy, Campbell Hartley, Jedrzej Gozdzik, Fern Salter, Nick Cherbanich and Alice Court.

Headteacher Sharon Jarrett said, ‘I am extremely proud of each and every one of our students, and would like to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication shown by students and staff. Mathematics, Chemistry, Psychology,  Art and Drama results have been exceptional, which reflects the fact that ‘Team Amersham’ achieves across the board. From these wonderful grades, we have students moving on to university courses to study a wide range of subjects, including Pharmacology, Fine Art, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Dance.’
